More Puppy and Litter Information:
We are hoping for a litter later this spring! While it's far too early to tell for sure, our Ch. Hum'nbird Sail Away (Sonia) has been bred and may be expecting a litter around May 15, 2008. Please watch this site for updates!
We recommend those interested in having Pembroke Welsh Corgi join their home visit the PWCCA website at www.pembrokecorgi.org where you will find a list of member-breeders in your area of the United States. Additionally, we recommend you purchase pet quality puppies ONLY from members of the PWCCA or PWCCA-affiliate clubs who you have screened yourself. Pet shops and volume breeders (commercial or private breeders, breeding/co-breeding in excess of 4 litters per year) are not the place to buy a Pembroke Welsh Corgi simply because motivation for breeding quality dogs is lost if profit is the purpose for a litter. Do not be shy about inquiring about the annual number of litters bred or co-bred by anyone involved with breeding their corgis. Before you buy, ask the breeder if they are a member of the PWCCA or affiliate. If not- ask why not?
Even though you may only want a Family Pet, here is why you want to buy from a member: Each year, Members sign a Code of Ethics
that commits them to ethical, responsible dog breeding. Corgis going to pet homes will always be sold on a spay/neutering agreement. You will have a reliable, caring resource for your corgi, and an experienced person who cares about the dog's well-being for its entire life.
Yes, a dog from a responsible breeder is likely to have a slightly higher
purchase price than one from the person who says they 'breed for pets only.' In the end, you will get what you pay for. Would you buy a car with an unknown history and no warranty just because it is cheaper than
the one that does? Probably not! Remember, a healthy dog with generations of health-documented ancestors is what you will receive from the responsible hobby breeder, who cares and who has proven their
commitment to stand by the small number of dogs they breed. We feel the best corgi breeders breed to improve the breed they love, and do not do it as a business.
For excellent information about our breed, please visit to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America, Inc. website at www.pembrokecorgi.org. There, readers will find a list of
member/breeders across the U.S. You will also be able to find information on the corgi rescue programs of regional clubs across the country.
